WIU Best Buddies Organization Hosts Spaghetti Dinner March 2

MACOMB, IL -- Social responsibility is one of Western Illinois University's four core values, and every day WIU students make a difference on their campuses and in their communities. On Thursday, March 2, the WIU Chapter of Best Buddies will host a spaghett dinner to raise funds to benefit their organization, which exists to help others.

The "Spread the Word to End the Word" spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 2 at the Macomb American Legion, 221 E. Washington St. Tickets are $5 in advance ($7 at the door). The dinner includes spaghetti, garlic bread, a drink and dessert.

"Not only is this a fundraising dinner, it's also an opportunity to further raise awareness to stop the use of the 'r' word," said WIU Best Buddies President Steven Copher.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit national organization that dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Western students are matched in a one-on-one friendship with a member of the Macomb community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Western's chapter, which is advised by Amy Burke, communication sciences and disorders instructor, has 40 members and 30 community residents.
